Saddleworth Museum hopes to re-open in May 2021
The museum management committee will broadcast another update in May after their next planning meeting in late April.
A reduced number of volunteers (in a Covid compliant way) will begin preparing the museum after the 12th of April for its’ planned re-opening during late May.
The museum thinks they will be reducing the days they are open (and possibly extending the hours on those days) and may need to re-open in stages (shop / art gallery / collection galleries) to ensure compliance. They expect they will also need to limit visitor numbers and frequencies; ensure that both the museum and visitors comply with guidelines and record their details for NHS track and trace.
They think (according to the latest UK Government guidelines), that the EARLIEST they could plan for, is that the shop re-opens possibly on Wednesday 19th May.
They intend to re-open their art gallery with the Russell Howarth Trustees Collection art exhibition during May and June. During May they hope they will be able to announce the schedule for their other exhibitions by external artists from July 2021 onward.
Their collection galleries (and other areas) will also be available on an appointments system (on their main website and Facebook) toward the end May EARLIEST.
It is suggested that those wishing for information could email curator@saddleworthmuseum.co.uk and those wanting to be added to re-opening update broadcast could email friends@saddleworthmuseum.co.uk.
